Sometimes the standard length of curtain rods are just not long enough for those long width windows. Extra long curtain rods are available from a wide range of manufacturers. Curtain rods are an attractive alternative to the old style plastic curtain tracks used decades ago. They come in all sorts of styles, lengths and different materials from a simple design to the more intricate designed rods.

The extra long curtain rods can be attached to the wall, window frame or the ceiling with the included brackets. If you are attaching to a cavity wall make sure that you use the correct cavity screws. An alternative is to rather attach to the window frame as it is likely to better hold the extra weight of the rod and curtains. Remember that as you are using such a long curtain rod, the curtains or drapes that you hang up are going to be quite heavy.

The rods needs to be positioned about 4 to 6 inches above the window frame and if there is space either side of the window, then the rod should extend beyond the edge of the window frame on each side to allow the curtains to be pulled back away from the window.
